Johan Deckmann, a Danish artist, uses books to administer psychological medicine, in a humorous, relate able manner. This artist works mainly with book covers in different sizes to share his thoughts utilizing different colors as symbolism, as well as specific word choices. Johan began his series of book art as a technique of psychotherapy in 2015. I found it interesting that he is also a music composer and lyricist. This artist's work was especially inspiring to me because it gives me insight on some truths that I forget in the business of my everyday life. His work inspires me to be more and attempt to understand the interactions betwixt the people around me that I am so soon to forget. I like the fact that the books have only a cover on them and we are to imagine what is written inside, because it is unique to everyone. This art is also inspiring because it highlights the power that words can have and displays how emphasis can be powerful when creating a picture. His work also displays an important theme, that we are only human. I find it is important to ask questions and not take things to be truth just because someone else has said them. Some of his pieces include emotionally uplifting themes that I quite enjoy and help to remind me that being happy is a choice in our life, it is not just a product of certain actions. In conjunction to that thought, his work displays another key role of humans, we make mistakes and all get down on ourselves at times, but we must drive ourselves to carry on. Overall Johan interacted with my perception and reinforced the statement that art is not confined to drawing.
